Transport WiFi

Passenger WiFi that holds up in harsh-environment sites.

Liveport designs, installs and runs WiFi for Australian airports, bus depots, ferry terminals and regional transport sites. Harsh-environment hardware, Starlink + 5G failover, since 2008.

Experience

Since 2008

Most transport WiFi assumes a clean comms room. Real sites are dust, sun, and salt.

The Reality

  • Passengers expect WiFi at every gate and platform
  • Operations crews need a separate, reliable VLAN
  • Regional sites have no fibre and shaky NBN

The Problem

  • Indoor APs fail in 50°C ceilings
  • NBN outage = no passenger WiFi for hours
  • Operations VLAN sharing with passenger traffic

The Solution

  • IP67-rated outdoor APs, dust + UV stable
  • Bonded NBN + Starlink + 5G failover
  • 24/7 NOC + AU helpdesk

The Transport Network Layer

Hardware that survives the site. Carriage that survives the carrier.

sync_alt

Passenger WiFi portal

Branded captive portal at every gate, platform, terminal. Multi-language. Audit-logged. Survives event-day load.

support_agent

Operations VLAN

Crew radios, ticketing, signage, CCTV, all on a Liveport Gateway-controlled separate VLAN with their own QoS, monitoring, and uptime targets.

analytics

Real-time telemetry

Per-site coverage, capacity, failover state. Operations sees outages before passengers tweet about them.

Operations VLAN

Crew radios, ticketing, CCTV, separate VLAN, their own QoS, their own SLA.

cast

Harsh-environment AP

IP67-rated outdoor units, dust + UV stable, salt-air rated. Built for real Australian transport sites.

monitoring

Real-time telemetry

Per-site coverage, capacity, failover state. Outages surface in seconds, not after passenger complaints.

gavel

Starlink + 5G failover

Bonded NBN, Starlink and 5G. Regional sites stay online when one carrier drops.

Platform Capabilities

More than a passenger SSID.

Available on every Liveport transport deployment, from regional ferry terminals to international gate lounges.

hub

Multi-carrier neutral host

Multiple ISPs run through one branded portal. Airlines, retailers and ground handlers keep their own carriage, passengers see one network.

qr_code_2

Sponsored portal + dynamic QR

Branded captive portal at every gate, platform and terminal. Sponsorship slots, QR posters for low-signal areas, multi-language.

balance

Fair-share bandwidth

Per-device equalisation. A 500-passenger surge at a delayed gate doesn’t crater the session for everyone else.

cell_tower

Active-active SD-WAN

NBN + Starlink + 5G bonded with sub-second failover. Single-carrier outages don’t take the site offline.

explore

Location tracking + wayfinding

Anonymous device flow across terminals and platforms. Operations dwell metrics, plus traveller wayfinding overlays.

vpn_lock

Tenant VPN channels

Airlines, ground handlers, retailers and ferry operators each get a secure VPN channel to head office, isolated from passenger traffic.

receipt_long

Integrated billing + vouchers

Free tiers, paid tiers, sponsorships and vouchers handled in-platform. No third-party billing bolt-on.

campaign

Event-based passenger comms

Trigger automated messaging on delay, weather or capacity events. Apologetic coupons, storm-cancellation rebooking links.

Boarding to landing, invisible.

Zero outage tweets. Zero passenger escalations.

02

Resilience design

Bonded carriage, Starlink failover, IP67 hardware spec, operations VLAN, all designed before the first AP arrives on site.

03

Outdoor-rated install

IP67-rated APs mounted to spec. Lightning protection, solar shielding, salt-air rating where the site demands it.

04

Bonded carriage commissioning

NBN, Starlink and 5G bonded and failover-tested. Single carrier outages don’t take the site offline.

05

24/7 NOC

AU-staffed NOC. Operations escalation path. Quarterly review with portfolio reporting.

Operations Questions

How do APs survive outdoor Australian sites?

We deploy IP67-rated outdoor APs with UV-stable enclosures, lightning protection, and salt-air ratings where the site demands it. We do not put indoor hardware in outdoor cabinets.

How does Starlink + NBN bonding work?

Active-active SD-WAN bonding with sub-second failover. NBN runs primary where it’s reliable; Starlink kicks in for remote sites or as instant backup. Single dashboard, single SLA.

Is Harsh-environment AP secure between rooms?

Yes. WPA3, per-device VLAN tagging, and remote attestation work the same outdoors as indoors. Harsh enclosures don’t change the security posture; they just keep the radios alive.

How is fleet vs depot WiFi handled?

Depot WiFi runs as standard managed WiFi. Fleet (vehicles) uses cellular routers with the same Liveport Gateway dashboard, so depot and fleet roll up into one operational view.
