Independent clinical-grade WiFi assessment for Australian hospitals.
Liveport delivers vendor-neutral wireless network assessments for Australian hospitals, applying the latest CWNP certifications across the wireless stack, validated against clinical-mobility, RTLS-readiness and biomedical-IoT requirements. We don’t sell hospital hardware. We give clinical and biomedical engineering leads an evidence-based view of the network they actually operate, scoped against the systems clinicians depend on.

Quick answer for clinical IT and biomedical engineering
Liveport delivers independent enterprise WiFi design services for large Australian hospitals. Vendor-neutral RF design and site assessment for clinical-grade WiFi, VoWiFi handset roaming (Cisco, Spectralink, Ascom, Vocera), RTLS for staff duress and asset tracking, eMAR clinical roaming continuity, and audit-ready evidence packs. Reference engagement: a 16-hospital independent site survey program for St John of God Health Care, plus Royal Melbourne Hospital, The Northern Hospital and Headspace sites.
What independent assessment means.
Liveport assesses, designs and reports. On hospital projects we do not sell the access points, switches, controllers or RTLS hardware we’d then be assessing. The recommendation is the deliverable. The engineering decisions stay with the hospital, and with whichever vendor wins the eventual procurement.
We don’t sell hardware
On hospital assessments we earn fees for engineering judgement, not margin on equipment. Our Bills of Materials are vendor-neutral and re-usable for tender.
Vendor-neutral analysis
Cisco, Aruba (HPE), Ruckus, Mist, Mikrotik, Cambium, assessed on clinical-RF performance, not partner programs. We name the right gear for the building, not the brand on a price list.
Clinical operational lens
Coverage and capacity are framed against eMAR, vital-signs telemetry, voice-over-WLAN, RTLS and biomedical-IoT, not generic “guest WiFi” metrics.
Independence. The reason hospitals call us.
You wouldn’t buy a house without a building inspector, someone with no stake in the sale, no commission tied to closing, just the expertise to find what the seller didn’t disclose. The same logic applies to a multi-million-dollar hospital WiFi network. You’ve paid a vendor to deliver coverage, capacity, roaming, security and uptime. Without an independent RF survey, packet capture and protocol analysis, you can’t actually verify it. That’s where Liveport sits.
Liveport is vendor-agnostic and holds the latest CWNP certifications covering the whole wireless stack, design, security and analysis.
Why hospitals bring us in
There is almost always a gap between what the tender response promised and what was actually deployed. Most clinical-engineering and IT teams don’t carry in-house RF expertise to verify it, and the vendor isn’t going to volunteer the gaps. The questions sit unanswered until someone independent walks the building with the right tools.
Independent diagnostic work surfaces what a layperson can’t see, firmware bugs in deployed APs, retry storms degrading throughput, roaming failures that drop voice handsets between cells, security misconfigurations on supposedly segmented VLANs, and capacity bottlenecks that only appear under real clinical load. These are silent failures. They don’t trip an alarm. They show up as nurses complaining the network is slow, or telemetry sessions dropping during a code.
The diagnostic discipline is the same regardless of whose gear is in the ceiling, Cisco, Aruba, Ruckus, Mikrotik. The report reads the same. We are not a reseller for any of them, and we are not chasing the next deployment contract.
The output is documented evidence the hospital owns. Use it in vendor-remediation negotiations. Use it to scope the next tender. Use it for compliance audits, insurance reviews, or accreditation. The report is built to be defensible in front of the vendor being assessed.
What we do, and don’t do
What we do
- Walk the building with Ekahau Pro to validate AP coverage and capacity against the tender spec.
- Capture and analyse 802.11 packets to expose firmware bugs, roaming failures and security misconfigurations.
- Compare measured performance against operational clinical requirements, eMAR, vital-signs telemetry, voice-over-WLAN, biomedical IoT, RTLS.
- Document findings in a single report you can hand to the vendor, or to the next vendor.
What we don’t do
- Sell hospital APs. There is no Cisco, Aruba, Ruckus or Mikrotik reseller margin for us in this space.
- Take commission on remediation hardware.
- Get paid more if we recommend more spend.
- Write reports we’d be embarrassed to defend in front of the vendor being assessed.
Procurement footnote. Liveport’s wireless engineering team holds current CWNP certifications across the design, security and analysis disciplines, recertified on the published CWNP cycle. Certifications are listed against named engineers on request and may be cited verbatim in tender responses.

What you receive.
- Predictive RF design or active site surveyPredictive Ekahau / iBwave design from architectural floor plans for pre-deployment, or active Ekahau survey for lived-in environments. Scope clearly states which.
- Spectrum analysis & channel plan2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz spectrum capture, with channel plan aligned to ACMA spectrum allocation and DFS behaviour for medical environments.
- Coverage & capacity validation per zonePer-ward, per-theatre, per-ED, per-ICU and public-area validation. RSSI, SNR, retry rates, airtime budget, client capacity per AP.
- 802.11r/k/v fast-roaming validationRoam-time measurement under load with the clinical mobility handsets and badges actually in use. Pass/fail against application thresholds.
- Deep-packet capture and 802.11 protocol analysis (CWAP)Frame-by-frame protocol analysis to diagnose firmware bugs in deployed hardware, isolate vendor issues with clinical clarity, and produce evidence-backed escalation to Cisco, Aruba, Ruckus or other AP vendors. The receipts the vendor support desk actually responds to.
- RTLS-ready design3-AP overlap mapping, BLE / Wi-Fi tag readiness, integration paths for Cisco CMX, Aruba Meridian, Ekahau Vision or vendor-equivalent.
- Application-specific requirements per clinical systemeMAR, vital-signs telemetry, voice-over-WLAN, biomedical IoT, patient entertainment, sized and segmented independently, composed to per-AP load.
- Vendor-neutral Bill of MaterialsQuantities, model classes (not SKUs locked to one vendor), accessory and cabling schedule. Re-usable verbatim in a tender RFQ.
- Three-tier recommendation roadmapTier 1, configuration optimisation on existing hardware. Tier 2, targeted enhancement (selective AP additions, controller tuning). Tier 3, full refurbishment or refresh with budgetary cost band.
Royal Melbourne Hospital, 915 access points, 3 campuses.
Melbourne Health engaged Liveport ahead of a hospital-wide Electronic Medical Records rollout. The wireless network had to support 1,600 Point-of-Care devices across the Royal Melbourne City Campus, Royal Park, Jane Bell House and remote sites, under live clinical operation, with no tolerance for connectivity drops on medication management or voice traffic. Liveport’s site survey identified the actual problem: too many access points creating co-channel interference, not too few. The remediation was surgical, power reduced, channel plan rebuilt, APs strategically redeployed rather than added, delivered as an independent vendor-neutral assessment. The EMR rollout went live without significant network issues.

St John of God, 16 hospitals, 6 months.
St John of God Health Care engaged Liveport to assess WiFi readiness across 16 facilities, public and private hospitals, day-surgery centres and outreach clinics, in a single coordinated programme delivered over six months. We surveyed each site under live clinical operation, scoped against eMAR, voice-over-WLAN and RTLS readiness, and produced a vendor-neutral consolidated recommendation that sat squarely with the hospital’s IT leadership rather than any one supplier. We did not sell hardware on the engagement. The output was an evidence-based plan St John of God could execute, retender, or stage as budget permitted.

Five operating principles.
- Independent on assessment. We don’t sell hospital hardware on engagements where we’d then be assessing it. Recommendations are the product.
- Vendor-neutral. Latest CWNP certifications across the wireless stack.
- Clinical schedule respected. Surveys never run during meal service, medication rounds, or ward changeover. Field engineers brief NUMs and infection-control before site entry.
