Multi-property aged care WiFi: survey, design options, live verification.
Royal Freemasons engaged Liveport across their Victorian residential aged care portfolio, seven boutique properties from Footscray to Mount Martha. We surveyed the existing networks, modelled two design options so the operator could see the cost difference between VoWiFi-grade coverage and full RTLS-ready coverage, then returned post-install for live verification once the preferred design was deployed. Vendor-agnostic engagement, Liveport sold the assessment, not the access points.

Three phases. Independent at every step.
Royal Freemasons wanted to know whether their existing networks could carry upgraded clinical workflows, nurse call, voice-over-WiFi, and Real-Time Location Services for fall detection, wandering management and asset tracking, without rebuilding the entire estate. Liveport assessed what was there, designed what was needed, and validated what was installed.
Site survey of existing networks
Active Ekahau survey across each property. Spectrum analysis, channel-plan review, identification of dead zones, capacity gaps and security weaknesses. Baseline measurement of existing roaming behaviour for wandering residents.
Two design options modelled
Option A, VoWiFi-grade. Meets clinical voice and nurse-call requirements at lower AP density and lower cost. Option B, RTLS-ready. Three-AP triangulation density, fast-roaming validated, AP geometry suited to indoor positioning. Each option costed transparently with hardware BoM, install and ongoing support.
Live post-install verification
Once Royal Freemasons installed their preferred design, Liveport returned for active Ekahau walk-through against the design spec. Confirmed AP performance, documented deviations, produced final go-live signoff or a remediation list.
Assess, model, validate, across a Victorian aged care portfolio.
Royal Freemasons operate seven residential aged care properties across metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria, providing care for over 1,200 older Victorians. Like most operators, the wireless networks at those properties had grown property-by-property, sized for guest WiFi and admin use, never tested against the requirements of clinical voice or location services. The question Liveport was engaged to answer was simple: can what’s already in the ceiling carry the next decade of clinical workflow, or does it need to change?
Phase 1, Survey existing networks
Liveport conducted active Ekahau surveys at the in-scope properties, measuring real-world AP coverage rather than relying on vendor predicted heatmaps. Spectrum analysis flagged 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz interference. Channel plans were reviewed against ACMA allocation and DFS behaviour. The survey identified dead zones, capacity bottlenecks, and security weaknesses, and crucially, baselined the existing roaming behaviour. For an aged care environment, roaming matters: a resident with a duress pendant or a nurse on a VoWiFi handset cannot have a dropped call between two access points.
Phase 2, Two design options, costed transparently
Rather than push a single recommendation, Liveport scoped two design options against the same coverage baseline so Royal Freemasons could decide based on cost, not assumption. Option A, VoWiFi-grade, met clinical voice and nurse-call requirements at a lower access point density. Option B, RTLS-ready, added the three-AP overlap geometry needed for indoor positioning, fast-roaming validation, and the placement discipline that makes RTLS accuracy possible. Each option was costed with a full hardware Bill of Materials, install scope, and ongoing support estimates. The operator chose with full information about what each design delivered and what it cost.
Phase 3, Live post-install verification
Most networks get signed off on a vendor’s word. Royal Freemasons commissioned Liveport to return after the install and confirm it. Active Ekahau walk-through. AP-by-AP performance against design spec. Roaming validated under realistic clinical mobility patterns. Any deviations between design and installation documented for remediation. The final report sat with Royal Freemasons, usable for compliance, accreditation and capital planning, and gave them the evidence that what they paid for was what they got.
Liveport doesn’t sell the AP fleet to Royal Freemasons. We don’t take commission on the install. We get paid to find what the vendor missed, give the operator real options, and verify that what they paid for is what they got. Same engineering discipline regardless of the brand on the box., Liveport engineering principle
Five deliverables, all owned by the operator.
- Independent assessment of existing networksVendor-neutral active Ekahau survey, spectrum analysis and channel-plan review across the in-scope Victorian properties, measured against clinical voice, nurse-call and RTLS readiness, not generic guest WiFi metrics.
- Two costed design optionsVoWiFi-grade and RTLS-ready, each with a full hardware Bill of Materials, install scope, and ongoing support estimates so cost and capability could be compared transparently.
- Live post-install validation reportActive walk-through after the preferred design was deployed. AP-by-AP performance confirmed against design spec, deviations documented, signoff or remediation list produced.
- Documented evidenceReports usable in compliance, accreditation, insurance and capital-planning conversations. The operator owns the document, no vendor lock-in on the deliverable.
- Optional Liveport ongoing supportLiveport offered an ongoing-support contract once the preferred design was installed, vendor-agnostic on the hardware brand. Royal Freemasons retained the choice to run support in-house, with their installer, or with Liveport.

Vendor-neutral. Documented. Reusable for compliance, capital planning and tender, independent of whoever ends up holding the install contract.
